Bio: Harris has been in the produce business since the summer of 1971, when he began at age 15. Harris’ initial duties at Race-West way back in 1972, and officially when the company opened in 1973, was tracking the availability of rail cars for perishables throughout the United States. He did extensive work on railroad claims and legal issues with the railroads in 1972-1974. Harris worked in the industry through high school and college. He graduated Temple University in May of 1978 with a degree in business management and majoring in marketing and business law. He then began working full time.

Harris and his wonderful wife, Janice, have five magnificent children, three of whom are currently working in the business with two to follow. His family is the most important and enjoyable part of his busy life. He has been involved in numerous community service activities, both within the industry and his community in Northeastern Pennsylvania. A former president of Elan Gardens, as well as the United Hebrew Institute, Harris currently serves as the Secretary of the Jewish Community Center in Scranton, Pa, and he is Vice Chairman of the Lackawanna County Redevelopment Authority.

His passions include helping his industry associates, training and mentoring great produce talents, and serving the young and the elderly. He takes great pride in the tremendous success enjoyed by his fellow employees and family members. The produce business has allowed Harris numerous opportunities to visit agricultural production and distribution areas all over the country and around the world. Harris is the President of Race-West Company, Philip G. Ball Company and Sparky’s Transportation Corporation.
